What’s all the fuss about the new update?
The new Google Page Experience Algorithm update was scheduled for June and has now launched, with periodic updates rolling out until the end of August. This update launches Web Vitals, which are a series of benchmarks which measure and enhance the users experience on the web. This update focuses on the ‘page experience’ which analyses all aspects of how users interact with a website which in turn, helps Google make an informed decision about where a site should rank in organic search.
In line with the new update being released, Google has made it very clear what factors they will be analysing to rank your website. Under this new page experience framework, Google will be focusing on three facets, one of them being loading.
It is crucial that you pay attention to this algorithm update, because if your pages fall below Google’s new benchmarks, you could be left behind in the rankings. This means you will see a significant drop in website traffic.
Why is page speed important?
Consumer expectations of a business’s technological efficiency has increased drastically; so much so that 47% of consumers expect a web page to load in 2 seconds or less! With an average attention span today of just 8 seconds, youquite literally don’t have a second to waste.
Multiple studies have shown that the longer your website takes to load, the less conversions you will see. More users will stay on fast-loading sites and convert at higher rates than slow loading sites. This means that with a fast loading webpage, your business can see higher conversion rates.
Not only does a lightning fast page speed keep your customers happy and increase the chances of improving your financial performance, it’s also great for SEO.
There’s also bounce rate, which refers to the percentage of viewers who leave your website after only visiting one page. Users are more likely to leave your website if the page does not load within a matter of seconds and that means you are losing potential conversions.
The speed of your site dramatically impacts your SEO efforts as it is one of the signals used by Google’s algorithms to rank pages. In short, if Google deems your site too slow, it can hurt your search engine rankings. This characteristic as well as factors such as bounce rate, are all taken into account when Google determines where you should stand in the search results.
