UNSW
The project
SBM creates breathtaking 3D print and screen visuals to promote Unsomnia: a global conference of brilliant minds.
The puzzle
The University of New South Wales is one of the eight largest universities in Australia. Known for hosting international speakers and producing leading academic research, the UNSW came to SBM in need of a visual concept and design to symbolise ‘Unsomnia’, a conference that brings together the brightest minds in academia to discuss the challenges facing humanity. To fit with the theme of the event, the client requested that fluorescent bulbs be part of the final design.
The solution
Working alongside UNSW, 77 Productions created immensely detailed promotional pieces to visually convey the meaning of ‘Unsomnia’. Using full 3D, the artwork was made to be displayed at extremely high resolutions for both print and screens. The social and website clips were complemented by a stunning two-metre banner and additional prints, with the light globe theme at the forefront of the design. 3D VFX created the illusion of shattering glass in motion, with the plexus effect accentuated by motion graphics animation, creating a deep, multi-faceted end product.
The results
The dynamic globe visuals were widely used across a number of mediums to promote the hugely successful event. The artwork visually represented both the dynamic nature of the event and the central theme of great minds coming together, especially in the image of a light globe comprised of many smaller globes. This symbol resonated with the academics at the forefront of UNSW research and at the heart of Unsomnia. The combination of print and screen visuals created a distinct visual feel for the conference as a whole, used across all promotional material.
