Five Star Games
The project
Five Star Games receives all the design assets they need for a memorable, award-winning Australian video game release.
The puzzle
Five Star Games (FSG) is a top-tier, award-winning video game distributor. They maintain a number of exclusive distribution partnerships with leading game publishers around the world, including Xbox. They were seeking a number of localised, interactive digital assets to support the launch of major game title Metro: Exodus. Industry-focused advertisers (Twitch, IGN, Gamespot, Kotaku) would also be supporting the game’s release. This complex project involved following strict guidelines and approvals for both FSG and Xbox, as well as specifications provided by each advertiser and additional regulations around rating and copyrights.
The solution
SBM’s design team created a range of digital banners and website skins, expertly delivered to complex specifications. As every asset created was to be reviewed individually by multiple stakeholders, a comprehensive knowledge of all style guides and media specs was essential. To avoid roadblocks, SBM worked closely with Five Star Games throughout the entire project, clearly explaining and providing rationale for each decision. The client’s ability to provide feedback in real time streamlined a potentially confusing process into a well-oiled machine.
The results
Armed with all the assets they needed, Five Star Games was ready for both pre and post-release campaigns around the planned launch. Their commercial partner Xbox and the associated advertisers were also fully satisfied with the final designs and how they adhered to all the strict guidelines, despite the short timeframe given to the SBM design team for the project. Metro: Exodus was a critical and commercial success, selling hundreds of thousands of copies within its first few days of release. The game was nominated for numerous awards, winning ‘Best International Game’ at the 2020 Pégases Awards.
