Budja Budja
The project
The Budja Budja Aboriginal Co-operative receives a stellar video to showcase their vital service to the community.
The puzzle
Budja Budja is an initiative of the local Djab Wurrung Aboriginal Community, a co-operative clinic which delivers a range of medical, cultural, health and wellbeing services to both the local indigenous and non-indigenous community around the Gariwerd (Grampians National Park) and Halls Gap regions.
Budja Budja had received some government funding for indigenous youth camps, and had their sights set on some powerful promo video. Their main goal was to encourage indigenous students, allowing them to take part in camps and programs that would teach their cultural heritage.
The solution
Our video team wanted to capture the essence of the Budja Budja camps, focusing on the quality and impact they provide on the community. Travelling up to the Gariwerd region where the camps are held, our team worked with Budja Budja to develop a strategy to capture camp highlights from the young people’s viewpoint.
The video focused on the positive effects of the camps, carrying a strong theme of indigenous heritage and the preservation of culture. A diverse range of voices were represented in the finished product, including interviews with elders, kids and camp leaders; the end product was kept short to grab the attention, but was still a powerful journey through a unique range of perspectives.
The results
The finished video was a polished promo piece that perfectly highlighted the true impact of Budja Budja and the vital role it plays within the community. Interviews with the team and kids who’d attended the camp helped to showcase the positive influence, great memories and renewed connection to kinship and culture, with themes of Indigenous heritage woven throughout.
Budja Budja were thrilled with the end result, which not only gave them a powerful piece of promotional material, but also allowed them to properly evaluate the experiences of attendees and tailor their future programs.
