The project
SBM creates a stunning, quirky and personality-driven lifestyle brand website for Disney that impresses across all devices.
The puzzle
For the first time ever, Disney was pursuing a venture purely for adults: a luxury lifestyle brand, selling Australian-made premium stationery, leather goods and lifestyle products, all with a playful and whimsical design. The overall aim was to capture the magic of Disney for an older generation. The SBM team was given the task of crafting the Alice Pleasance website, with the brief including directions on logo, colours, photography style and narrative. All elements had to be easy to update, as well as responsive across all types of device.
The solution
The major deliverable of this project was to be a stunning, stylish and whimsical website that would pique a visitor’s curiosity and encourage exploration. From the very beginning, the guiding design principle was ‘down the rabbit hole’, utilising quirky design elements that still made for a smooth user browsing experience. SBM’s designers worked with Disney to meet the exact brand guidelines and establish an extremely strong personality across both the visuals and the written word. On the development side, making the whimsical parallax effect work on mobile was the biggest challenge and greatest achievement.
The results
Extensive testing and tweaking of the website design and content made for a smooth website launch, with the unique personality and voice of Disney’s newest venture being front and centre across all devices. The launch of the Alice Pleasance website was a success, bolstered by reaching out to the target demographic on Instagram. This helped to create a strong personality for a bold, whimsical, quirky new brand, with sign-ups across many different social media platforms and fantastic engagement in stores.
