Headspace
The project
SBM partners with nonprofit to create animated videos, raising awareness for vital mental health issues.
The puzzle
Founded by the Australian government, Headspace has been working tirelessly to support mental health in young people for almost fifteen years. Headspace needed a video to raise awareness for and explain the challenging topic of psychosis. SBM was brought in to create a video for two target audiences: sufferers or psychosis, and people who may know someone with the condition. The video was to help young people gain a better understanding of psychosis, so that they might more easily find support and provide it for others.
The solution
Given the sensitive nature of the topic, the SBM team approached the project with extreme care. To make the issue more approachable and relevant to different audiences (as well as to prevent potential bias), animal characters were chosen to deliver the message. Two characters representing different audiences were chosen: one who would be suffering from psychosis, and the other who would recognise the signs in their friend. SBM worked especially closely with Headspace to gain a strong understanding of psychosis, ensuring that this condition was accurately represented.
The results
The final result was an engaging video that could educate people on an important and difficult topic, while remaining respectful. The video was very thoroughly researched to accurately depict psychosis, helping both those who suffer from it and those around them recognise the symptoms and seek help. Headspace was extremely happy with the finished product and its accuracy in communicating the condition. They’ve since spread the video across their social media channels, informing young people across Australia.
