The project
Iconic and beloved Fitzroy bakery gets a stunning, ground-up brand refresh, plus new website design and build.
The puzzle
Fatto a Mano is an iconic Fitzroy bakery specialising in organic sourdough breads, pastries and sweets. Despite being in business since 2007 and gaining a significant following from their local community (and beyond!), they lacked a website of their own, which led them to approach SBM. They were looking to establish an online presence while giving themselves a ‘brand facelift’, further boosting their already-positive reputation. A key challenge was to design branding that captured the trademark ‘handmade’ theme, reflecting their reputation as one of Melbourne’s best bakeries.
The solution
SBM’s Design and Development teams collaborated to deliver a complete brand identity…with mandatory taste testing a key part of the project. The first major step was organising and directing a photoshoot that captured the bakery’s products with visual flair. Together with a warm, organic colour palette, these images became the central feature of the new website, creating a mouth-watering window into what was on offer and encouraging customers to visit and taste for themselves. This was complemented by a built-in feature allowing the easy updating of daily specials.
The results
The website is a freshly baked feast for the eyes, allowing Fatto a Mano’s gorgeous products to shine alongside styling that highlights their rustic appeal. The images are supported by a warm and inviting branding system, incorporating hand-drawn fonts and icons to emphasise their artisanal offering. This perfectly complements the bakery’s name, which translates to ‘made by hand’. The result is a strong and distinctive online presence that boosts the reputation of one of Melbourne’s most beloved bakeries, driving traffic and solidifying their public image.
